Spring is finally here my darlings. It’s time to say hello to flowers, fun and new fashion – and it’s the perfect time to change makeup routines and start fresh.
Before I jump into the fabulous new faces of spring, let’s take a look at spring fashion. I’ve enlisted celebrity stylist David Widjaja to give my readers his voice for what to look for in 2011, so read on, dear readers.
It’s All About Color
“Bright bold colors such as magenta, plum, fuchsia, orange and yellow paraded down the runways of every major designer collection from New York to Paris. The big trend for the spring/summer collections is lush gorgeous color blocked clothing inspired by YSL’s influential 70′s peasant collection.”
My take on makeup: think Park Avenue disco diva with bold colored eyes and lips accented by silver and gold metallics.”
Take a gander at the photo that I worked on with hairstylist Barbara Lhotan – I’m not expecting women to sport blue cheeks, but if I get one of you to toss your boring beige eye shadow and replace it with blue, I’ve done my job.
Can I get an amen?
Bright Eyes
Now ladies, the easiest way to welcome spring is with a splash of bright eye shadow.
For daytime, try DEX New York Mineral Pressed Eye shadow in Riverside Purple Sky– an amazing blue with hints of purple. Or try MUD Make-Up Designory Daisy Eye Color – a bright yellow gold. I like to apply bright colors only on the lid with a tiny smidge on the lower lid – add tons of black mascara and you’re set.
For evening clubbing or lounging, go bolder! Try MAC Cosmetics Chromaline Eye-Liner Teinte Gel/Crème – this fabulous product comes in 10 over the rainbow shades – I adore Marine Ultra (deep blue) and and Hi-Def Cyan (brilliant aqua). Here’s how to use these rich cream pigment pots: with a thin brush smudge the cream next to your lashes for instant glamour. For added drama, blend the color underneath your eye for a show stopping colorful smoky eye.
Want to go further into disco madness? Try a strip of Kiss Premium Eyelashes – these gems come with applicator strings to make application seamless and effortless. Try lash #1 for eye opening effects.

Luxe Lips
With such bold eyes, lips usually take a back seat, but not this spring. Pair your bright eyes with the hottest color of the season – a bright orangey coral. Try Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Lip Gelee in Electric Coral.
For girls who like red or pink, say hello to Rimmel London’s new Moisture Renew Lip glosses – try SOS Red or Berry Bliss
Skin Basics and New Claw Colors
With a face full of color, the best way to update your nails is to reach for a silver metallic glitter polish. I adore China Glaze Nail Polish in Platinum Silver. And please, keep your nails in a nice rounded square or oval shape – no dragon lady nails!
Remember the basis for any makeup is perfect skin. Secret product to the stars is Per-fekt Skin Perfection Gel – Jennifer Hudson swears by it for all her red carpet events.. Believe me, a little dab of this miracle stuff will make your skin glow. I like to mix a drop of foundation with it for sheer coverage. Fabulous.
For those makeup loving divas in the New York area, the annual Make Up Show is rolling back into town May 15 and 16. Look for classes and products galore including Senna, Kryolan, Kett Cosmetics, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, Kiss New York, Kevyn Aucoin and many, many more rare and exclusive brands. FFI, check out www.themakeupshow.com.
That’s it for this month my darlings. Go wow the crowds!
