With New Shades For Spring

After a long and chilly winter, the pink tulips outside my window are finally blooming – and Mister Makeup couldn’t be happier. That’s right, as the weather warms and we turn our grey complexions towards the sun, Mister Makeup says it’s time to rethink and restock our beauty closets. This month I’m dishing tips and sharing my favorite new products.

Take a look at the fabulous photo I worked on with photographer Roberto Ligresti (robertoligresti.com) – all bright eyes and coral lips. If this picture doesn’t say spring, nothing does.

For Lips: Last fall, dark matte lips ruled the runways, but this spring it’s all about bright sheer punchy colors. Think pink, plum and especially coral – the lip color of the season! Before applying a new spring shade, make sure your lips are smooth and kissable. Try Sally Hansen’s new Miracle Cure Lip Savers (sallyhansen.com) – these chic little tubes are a combination of color and care. Loaded with ceramides, amino acids and vitamin E, these moisture savers are a spring must.

Another lip must have are N.YC. New York Color’s Lip Sliders Tinted Lip Balm (newyorkcolor.com) – these tiny slide-able tins of sheer color fit into your hip pocket or purse for easy access. Try Sugar Angel – a coral tint that was on everyone’s lips at the spring fashion shows.

Now that your lips are smooth and soft, it’s time for color. I adore Laura Mercier’s Lip Gloss (sephora.com) in Bellini – a tangy shimmering peachy coral. For a rosy plum, try Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect (dior.com) in Rose Satin. And if you need a sheer gloss to top off your favorite lipstick, try Kanebo Silky Lip Gloss (barneys.com), which is worth every penny.

For those of you that like long wearing formulas, Rimmel (walgreens.com) has introduced Lasting Finish Kiss & Stay Lip-gloss. These dual-headed wanded tubes offer color on one side and shimmering gloss on the other. I adore English Rose – a nice bright pink. And this stuff stays on for hours without drying out your lips – perfect for dancing the night away.

For Face: Nothing perks up a winter weary completion better than a dose of self-tanner. I have been slathering my models with PurMinerals (purminerals.com) Get A Little Self Tanning Lotion – it has a lovely citrus scent and goes on nice and smooth for a flawless finish. Be sure to wash your hands afterwards or you’ll get pumpkin palms.

For cheeks, it’s all about sheer bright color. Try Smashbox’s (smashbox.com) new Blush Rush (part of Smashbox’s fabulous new Spring collection Muse) in Masterpiece – an amazing bright pink that is surprisingly neutral. I like to put a little on the eyes, too.

If you like creamy gel blush, try Glo Minerals (gloprofessional.com for info) or (beautybridge.com to purchase) amazing glotint for lips and cheeks. This little miracle worker comes in one universal shade that is flattering on every gal. I like to layer it under bronzer and luminizer for a fresh glow or slick it on lips under gloss.

Spring is the perfect time to try a new foundation. Skin care experts Repechage (repechage.com) have introduced Seaweed-based Treatment Makeup that is loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that not only mask imperfections but also nourishe the skin. Try smoothing on just a few tiny drops for sheer coverage.

For Eyes: This spring, it’s all about brightly colored eyes in every shade of the rainbow. I like to mix several shades to create a sexy young look. To get this look, try glonminerals (gloprofessional.com) fabulous spring shadow palette that features eight bright tones to create endless color combinations. The pigment rich shades offer crease free coverage and are packed with antioxidants to protect and nourish the delicate eye area.

If you can’t say hello to colored eyes, try just one color – blue – over a blend of neutrals – try Dior’s (nordstrom.com) 5 Couleur shadow palette in Beige Massai – five sexy shimmering champagne shades. What’s more, it comes in a tiny velvet bag that just screams luxury and glamour – a must for Mister Makeup.

For the budget minded gal, N.Y.C. New York Color (newyorkcolor.com) has introduced Metro Quartet Eye shadow palettes. I love Chelsea Chic – four great shades of shimmering pinky purple – each shade is labeled for foolproof eyelid placement.

To make your bright eyes pop, try a colored mascara, like Smashbox’s Bionic Mascara (smashbox.com) in Black Violet. This super powered black lash expanding mascara has a touch of purple that makes the peepers rock. If only they had this stuff around when Jamie Summers was on television.

For Nails:
After being trapped in gloves all winter, give your nails a reason to come out and play. Hot pink, coral or fuchsia will wake up your nails. Try Borghese’s (borghese.com) new Borghese Garden collection in shades inspired by Italian gardens. Each bottle comes with a special duale curve tip brush that is designed to hug your nail for a perfect application. I’m a big fan of the Piccola Tulip (a rich deep pink) and Campanula Bellflower ( a bright lavender). Barielle also has some fresh spring shades (barielle.com/shades) like Cotton Candy, Hope and Mysterious.

If nude nails are your thing, this spring offers a new nude. Instead of the usual beiges and taupes, try nude colors infused with just a hint of color. Sally Hanson’s Insta-Dry Fast Drying Nail Color (sallyhansen.com) in Mauve It has a lavender touch and Petal Pusher offers a touch of pink.

And if you are in Manhattan this May, be sure to check out the annual Makeup Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion on May 17 and 18. Full of products, freebies and seminars, this event is a must for the makeup fanatic. Tickets start at $45. FFI, call 212 242-1213.

That’s it for this month, my darlings! Enjoy spring and indulge is some of my favorite finds to give yourself a sassy new spring face.
